Best BLU Time-Lapse Graffiti Art Animation Videos

Friday, November 20th, 2009

The amazing Italian artist BLU is incredibly talented, and quite well-known, partly thanks to his popular time-lapse videos on YouTube. His style is unique and appealing, and the scale of his work is very impressive. Here’s an interview from 2004 of BLU on WoosterCollective, the best site I’ve found venerating everything street art.  Of course his murals are very impressive as they are, but the videos can really make your jaw drop. If you have a 1/2 hour and your mind to blow, then watch some of these hand-picked videos of BLU in action. This guy’s legendary.

40oz Popsicles!

40oz-malt-liquor-popsicle westside-popsicle

Found these brilliant 40oz inspired creations over at this blog. They’re art pieces created by Gary Garay, but I think these popsicles would sell like crazy. Remember being a kid and a breeze would bring you the whisper of a melody, just a note or two, and you and your friends bolted like rats inside to grab up some change from your dresser or the couch, because you knew what was on the way? Fuckin ice cream man! If you were lucky, that truck would come creeping down your street. Now imagine if you could have bought a popsicle that proudly displayed your affiliation to the west west y’all? Now if these 40 oz pops actually tasted like malt liquor then there’d really be something to these. Too bad booze doesn’t really freeze.

Monday, January 5th, 2009

We’ve started working with various local artists to put together some original pieces for a 40cozy art show. From graff artists, street artists, any and all worthy creative types- we’re pretty excited about this project and some of the early entries we’ve received. The one below is from our boy, Kuya. If any other come in looking this solid, we’re in for a bad ass showing. If you’re interested in getting involved, email bryan at 40cozy.com.

Han Cholo’s 14k Gold 40oz O.E. necklace

Monday, November 10th, 2008

I’m loving this company for three reasons:

1. Their name is brilliant.

2. Their site design is sick. Designed like a rad 80’s arcade game, navigate just like you did when you were crushing Donkey Kong back in ‘86.

3. They’re slanging silver & gold plated O.E. bottle pendants:

If you’re interested in getting one, or checking out all their other rad gear, go to hancholo.com. They’ve got a large variety of bad ass belt buckles, rings, bracelets, necklaces, etc. Oh, and if you’d like to get yourself one of these 40oz pendants, check out the pricing below. So for the price it’d cost you to get around 1000 O.E. 40’s, you can get a 14k gold necklace of an O.E. 40oz.

silver $200
gold plated $225
14k gold $2,250

Notsoberfest 2008: Burning bridges, dousing that fire with malt liquor

Monday, October 27th, 2008

Last weekend we celebrated P.J.’s 24th by renting out a warehouse and going apeshit. Our marketing guy and resident drunk, this party needed to represent every part of his ridiculous existence. Around 100 rowdy hooligans showed up to rage, paint, crush, drink, dance, bang and fight into the early morning. Supplies required for such an event:

  • 100 year old lumber mill, rooftop bbq, graffiti room,
  • Two kegs, 12 handles, thirty-six 40oz’s of malt liquor, 50 bottles of homebrew
  • One 6 ft tall pinata
  • DJ spinning nasty baby-making House
  • 5 beer pong tables, 30 person flip cup game, beer bong
  • Paint, spraypaint, paint pens, pig’s blood

The original plan was for all the drunk asses to crash in the warehouse, so we could all get crazy without getting behind the wheel. Destruction ensued: the walls, livers, dance floor, massive pinata, furniture, nothing was safe. And leave it to P.J. to be the only person we know to get kicked out of his own birthday party.

All in all, the first inaugural Notsoberfest was a hit and next year’s should be even wilder. Check out the photo gallery and see it for yourself.

Booze-inspired art – Feast of Burden exhibit

Wednesday, September 3rd, 2008

Hypebeast is a bad ass online magazine that covers art, design, and the latest trends in streetwear. Perusing Hypebeast always leads to good things, and I found an interesting exhibition showing at the THINK SILLY store titled Feast of Burden. Featured artists Carolyn Salas and Adam Parker Smith have created a new set of exclusive artworks of plush, hand-sewn art, these following pieces inspired by alcoholic beverages. The two items below retail at $205 for the Budweiser piece and $275 for the Bombay Sapphire. For the art fan who loves his booze.

The greatest packaging ever designed.

Here at 40cozy we’ve always been interested in product and packaging design, after all thats kind-of what we do.  Anyway, i was surfing the nets the other day and I came across the greatest packaging design ever created.  Its for pudding and its from Japan of course, those bastards always beat us at everything.

San Francisco Art Scene

Friday, February 15th, 2008

This post is a little late, but we want to thank the guys at Fecal Face for the countless hours of entertainment we get from their site when we’re stuck in our respective cubes. Well, we don’t actually work in cubicles (too lazy to get real jobs) but this is one of the best sites to see what’s going on in the current hip art scene. We sponsored one of their Free Fridayz contests, that’s how much we love their site. Enough talking, just go check it out- before you know it, you’ll be drinking PBR’s, wearing an ironic World’s #1 Dad t-shirt and riding your 8-speed bike up to SF. I don’t know what that sentence means, but check the site out.

Celebrating Street Art

Wednesday, January 9th, 2008

The 40Cozy crew members are all big supporters of street / graffiti / subversive / ephemeral art (whatever you choose to call it, we dig it). If you are down with it, or haven’t given it a fair shake, you need to check out Wooster Collective. As they put it, “This site is dedicated to showcasing and celebrating ephemeral art placed on streets in cities around the world.” Since 2001 they’ve been paying homage to an artform that sadly is commonly treated with contempt and often considered criminal. Keep up the good work guys!
