willingly or unwillingly, legal or illegal, those who walk through the world with open eyes can’t avoid graffiti anymore. i write kuyAlive a.k.a. kuya USC. HOM. SUK. a graffiti writer first, editorial cartoonist, sculptor, and illustrator, also involved with meeting of styles, tribal clique, fokai so. cal project, shriiimp, various MMA projects and graff-camp USA. I started to write graff in 92, even though growing up in a rough neighborhood isn’t really anything to glorify, i was inspired by the graffiti styles seen in the jungle streets on the west coast. at the time i had no idea where this would lead me or where this movement would go. in the course of time my hobby became serious and i wanted to give it direction to keep it interesting. each writer is influenced by nearly everyone and being a graffiti artist one should develop something of your own. to inspire future generations enabling the movement to proceed. like most teenagers i was already into drawing, most of my friends were already doing graffiti so it was only natural that i become involved with the graffiti scene. i prefer ‘ speed graffiti’ the rush cause it’s most fun. and that’s what it’s really about. it’s a combination of classic style technique, 3-D, and simple fills, formed into a balanced shape making it easier for my letterstyle to be understood, without making the use of characters to give it character.but, characters do help, characters are also important cause you can reach alot more people. but, in a world of graffiti, letters are essential. Having collaborated with graffiti artist such as CAN2, Persue, and Brisk one, my skills and techniques developed quickly. i am very lucky to be part of this pioneering event and thankful to all the writers i’ve met around the world. Because graffiti is still so young and new, it’s still possible to set new standards and bring something dynamic to the culture.
